Sikkim: Soreng hosts block-level pre-International Women’s Day celebration

The Block Administrative Centre (BAC) Soreng organized a pre-"International Women’s Day" celebration at Rurban Complex, Soreng, under the theme "Re-inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mothers back to their Childhood Hobbies and Interests."

The event aimed to inspire women, especially mothers, to reconnect with their passions and talents. Attendees included Zilla Panchayat and Panchayat members, Gaayas Pega, ADC (Development), Mamita Gurung, Deputy Director (Sports Department), Kumar Subba, DPO (Zilla), Paru Hang Subba, BDO (Soreng), Sushma Mohra, AD (Education Department), Panchayat Inspectors, and the general public.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Gaayas Pega emphasized the importance of honoring women and fostering respect in all spheres. He advocated for educating girl children, fighting gender discrimination, and promoting gender equality to empower women.

The celebration featured competitions in performing arts, creative writing, and arts and crafts, showcasing participants' talents. Winners included:

Performing Arts: Ms. Januka Darjee (25-Upper Timburbong GPU)

Creative Writing: Ms. Laxmi Tamang (26-Karthok GPU)

Creative Arts and Crafts: Ms. Kalpana Shankar (23-Tharpu)

Panchayat Inspectors and judges were honored with tokens of appreciation, while all participants received certificates. The program opened with a welcome speech by BDO Paru Hang Subba and concluded with a vote of thanks from Narshadeep Tamang, PI (BAC, Soreng).
