Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party has condemned the opposition's attempts to create confusion and fear among the people of Sikkim by misusing Article 371-F of the Indian Constitution in their political discourse. According to a statement from Puja Lamichaney, Secretary of the Legal Cell of SKM, certain political parties have been spreading baseless statements on social media, attempting to defame the state government and the party.

The statement clarifies that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang remains committed to uphold the rights and privileges granted to Sikkim under Article 371-F. This provision, which is integral to Sikkim’s identity and special status, continues to be a shield for the people of the state, ensuring their protection and security.

Lamichaney took strong exception to the opposition's attempt to manipulate a random judgment regarding medical seat reservations in a case involving the Hon'ble Supreme Court. She pointed out that the state of Sikkim was not even a party to the case, and Article 371-F was not a matter of concern in the ruling. She urged the opposition to refrain from quoting selective portions of the judgment and misleading the public.

"The statements made by the opposition are not only baseless but also irresponsible. Their intent is to disrupt the peace and tranquility of our state. They must stop playing politics with Article 371-F, a matter that holds immense significance for Sikkim," Lamichaney said.

She also reminded political parties that it is their collective responsibility to maintain peace and order, just as the government is committed to safeguarding the rights of the people. Furthermore, Lamichaney said that Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly assured that Article 371-F will not be diluted in any way, and the state government is dedicated to ensuring the protection of the Sikkimese people's rights.
