Sikkim scholar honoured with Pratibha Purashkar in Kathmandu
Sandhya, who hails from Assam Lingzey in Sikkim’s Pakyong district, is the first overseas recipient of the Pratibha Purashkar.

Sandhya Singzango (Subba), a prominent writer and researcher from Sikkim, has been honoured with the prestigious Pratibha Purashkar 2025 by Nepali Pratibha Pratisthan UK. The award ceremony took place on February 15 in Kathmandu, with renowned writer Bairagi Kainla (Tilbikram Nembang) presenting the award, according to a press release.
Sandhya, who hails from Assam Lingzey in Sikkim’s Pakyong district, is the first overseas recipient of the Pratibha Purashkar. Her academic and literary contributions to Limboo literature have earned widespread recognition. She has conducted extensive research and produced valuable translations that have enriched the Limboo community's cultural heritage.
In 2024, Sandhya received the Bishnu Dutt-Saraswati Angbuhang Anusandhanvriti grant from the Limboo Study Centre in Kathmandu. She also secured third place at the 32nd National Poetry Festival organized by the Bimal Gurung Memorial Library in Dharan, showcasing her poetic talent.
Beyond literature, Sandhya has been an active cultural leader, serving as the general secretary for Sukhim Pungwa Yuma Samyo Society and Sukhim Yakthung Chasok Tongnam Lokchum. She is currently researching Yakthung civilization and working on translating additional volumes of the Limboo scripture ‘Mundhum’ into English.
