Minister for Roads and Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim, N.B. Dahal, met Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), at the BRO Headquarters in New Delhi today. The meeting was held under the directives of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, reflecting the state government’s strong focus on road development and infrastructure improvement.

During the discussion, Minister Dahal reviewed ongoing road improvement projects being executed by the BRO in Sikkim. Key works include double-laning of important routes in North Sikkim and restoration of state highways affected by Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and monsoon damage, including stretches along Dikchu-Sankalang, Sankalang-Toong, and Chungthang-Lachen roads. The BRO is also responsible for the maintenance of strategic routes such as Gangtok-Nathula and the Old Silk Route stretch from Kupup to Rongli in East Sikkim, which connects Kalimpong in West Bengal.

Minister Dahal urged the BRO leadership to expedite ongoing projects to ensure better convenience for commuters, particularly ahead of the upcoming tourist season. The move underscores the SKM government’s focus on its flagship “BiPaSa” initiative, where ‘Bi’ stands for Bijuli (Electricity), ‘Pa’ for Pani (Water), and ‘Sa’ for Sadak (Road). Road development has been prioritized as part of this program, with aggressive action plans for improvement across the state.
