In a proud moment for Sikkim, Karma Tempo Ethenpa, Principal of PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan, has been honoured with the prestigious National Teachers Award 2025. The award was presented to him by President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, September 5, during the National Teachers’ Day celebration in New Delhi.
Ethenpa was among 45 teachers from across the country chosen for the award this year. His name now finds place in the list of educators who have gone beyond routine teaching and made a lasting impact on their students and community.
The recognition comes for his remarkable work in guiding students towards healthy living, particularly his efforts to encourage sports and physical activities in the school. He is credited with inspiring students to stay away from habits like smoking and tobacco use, which are common concerns among young people. In addition, he has been vocal about the risks of over-dependence on technology and has worked consistently to protect children from addiction to mobile phones and social media.
For years, Ethenpa has been deeply involved in building a culture of discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork among students in Mangan. Colleagues and parents say his approach is not limited to classrooms and textbooks, but focuses on preparing young learners to face life with confidence. “Sir always tells us that studies and sports go hand in hand. He wants us to be healthy in mind and body,” said a student from the school.
