Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on May 24 took part in the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog held in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Union Ministers Shri Amit Shah and Shri Rajnath Singh, along with NITI Aayog Deputy Chairman Dr. Suman Bery, other Chief Ministers, and senior officials from across the country.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Tamang presented Sikkim Vision 2047, a long-term plan aimed at turning the state into India’s first “Green Capital” and “Green Destination.” He said this vision focuses on sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth. He spoke about Sikkim's commitment to contributing to the country’s larger goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The Chief Minister shared various ideas and ongoing efforts that the state is working on. These include promoting village-led development, encouraging green cropping methods, improving regional connectivity, forming global partnerships, and empowering the youth through skill development and entrepreneurship. He also spoke about the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS), which is working to support policymaking based on real data and is aligned with NITI Aayog's national framework.

He said that Sikkim is moving forward in many sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, power, and digital connectivity. Tourism, MSMEs, and industry are also being developed steadily. Youth of the state are being trained through programs like SEED and INSPIRES, and sector-specific academies are being set up to provide them better career options.

Tamang said that Sikkim is known for its organic farming and said the state is now expanding its work in clean energy and waste management. These efforts, he noted, support India’s goals in renewable energy and environmental protection.

The Chief Minister also put forward some important requests to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. He asked for help in climate-proofing the NH-10 highway, which was badly damaged by floods caused by the outburst of South Lhonak Lake. He also requested the development of a world-class highway from Siliguri to Sikkim to improve connectivity. In addition, he proposed the construction of a Multimodal Corridor and an Integrated Check Post at Chewa Bhanjyang, which would boost trade and transport in the region.

He said that Sikkim fully supports the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and is ready to play its part. He also expressed hope for continued support from the central government in helping Sikkim achieve its goals.
