Sikkim Postal Division hosts ‘KANCHENJUNGAPEX-2025’ Philatelic Exhibition in Gangtok

The Sikkim Postal Division inaugurated its District Level Philatelic Exhibition, “KANCHENJUNGAPEX-2025”, on March 3. The two-day event, showcasing a diverse collection of rare stamps, special covers, and postal memorabilia, aims to promote philately among students and enthusiasts.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, and C.L. Lalfakzuala, Postmaster General, Sikkim & North Bengal Region. Rajiv Roka, Additional Director, Land Reform & Disaster Management, Government of Sikkim, was also present as a distinguished guest.
A key highlight of the event was the release of a special cover commemorating "90 years of Sikkim Rocket Mail (1935-2025),” celebrating the contributions of Sir Tashi Namgyal and aerospace engineer Stephen Smith.
The exhibition featured an extensive display of 40 frames with 79 sides, covering themes such as Mahatma Gandhi, Games & Sports, World of Flowers, Darjeeling Toy Train, Magical Mountains, Women Empowerment, Tibet through Stamps, Sikkim through Philately, British India Stamps, and Musical Instruments.
Prominent philatelists from Sikkim and North Bengal showcased their collections, while students from Tashi Namgyal Academy, Holy Cross School, Tadong Senior Secondary School, North Point Academy (Darjeeling), Army Public School (Darjeeling), and Reconocer Academy (Naxalbari) participated in the exhibition.
Engaging activities such as a Letter Writing Competition, Stamp Designing Competition, a Workshop on Philately, and a Magic Show were also organized, drawing enthusiastic participation from students of Greendale School, Modern Government Senior Secondary School, and C.S. Rai Government Junior High School, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Jyoti Prakash Tamang encouraged schools to promote philately as a hobby, emphasizing that stamps serve as miniature records of history, culture, and knowledge. Postmaster General C.L. Lalfakzuala reminisced about his childhood fascination with stamps and expressed his admiration for the young participants.
