Sikkim Police nab drug peddler with 36.24 grams of brown sugar in Gangtok

The Gangtok district police arrested a man with a significant quantity of brown sugar, a banned substance, from a busy part of the city. The accused, identified as Shiva Gurung, son of Bhakta Bdr Gurung, originally from Upper Saddam and currently residing in Bojhoghari, was found in possession of 36.24 grams of brown sugar.
The arrest took place at the Taxi Parking Lot near Tashiview Point, Gangtok. Police officials acted swiftly based on a credible tip-off and intercepted Gurung while he was inside his vehicle, bearing registration number SK01TA3479. He was reportedly trying to carry out a drug deal when the police team from Sadar Police Station apprehended him.
According to police sources, the operation was planned and executed with precision, ensuring there was no chance for the suspect to flee. Officers involved in the raid confirmed that the contraband was recovered directly from the accused’s possession during the search of the vehicle.
The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Gurung is now in custody and further investigations are underway to uncover any possible links with larger drug networks operating in or outside the state.
