Sikkim Pencak Silat Team wins 7 medals at Northeast Championship

Sikkim’s Pencak Silat artists have returned victorious from the 7th Northeast Pencak Silat Championship 2025, bagging a total of seven medals at the prestigious regional event. The championship was held in Dimapur, Nagaland, from July 15 to 17, and witnessed strong participation from teams across the Northeastern states.
Representing Sikkim under the banner of the Sikkim Pencak Silat Association, the state’s athletes competed in various categories, showcasing not just their skill and discipline but also the growing popularity of the Indonesian martial art in the region. The medal tally is being seen as a major morale booster for the state’s budding martial artists and a milestone achievement for the association.
To honour the medal-winning athletes, a felicitation ceremony was organised in Gangtok on Tuesday, where the players were warmly received and celebrated for their accomplishments. The event was graced by State Information Commissioner and President of the Sikkim Olympic Association, Shri Kuber Bhandari, who attended as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Bhandari applauded the dedication of the young athletes and praised the Sikkim Pencak Silat Association for its tireless efforts in promoting the martial art across the state. “This achievement is not just a win for the players, but for all of Sikkim. It reflects our state’s growing presence in the national martial arts landscape. With consistent support and training, Sikkim’s athletes can reach even greater heights in the future,” he said.
