In a significant milestone for Sikkim’s Skill Development initiatives, four women nurses from the state have arrived in Germany to begin their professional journey as registered nurses. The nurses –: Prerna Rai, Susmita Basnett, Sanjana Pradhan, and Shreya Rai – landed at Düsseldorf International Airport at 7:00 am IST today, where they were warmly welcomed by representatives of their employers and project partners.

The nurses are employed at St. Anna Stift Nursing Home, a reputed healthcare facility managed by the Catholic Church in Hagen City, North Rhine-Westphalia. Their recruitment marks a major achievement under the Sikkim INSPIRES Program, which aims to provide international career opportunities to skilled professionals from the state.

Under this initiative, 13 women nurses from Sikkim underwent German language training at the N.able Institute in Kochi, Kerala. The program, facilitated by Bilingual Vitae—a Gangtok-based firm in collaboration with Ideal Job Space, Germany—ensured that the candidates met the linguistic and professional standards required for placement in Germany’s healthcare sector.

Chief Minister of Sikkim recognized the nurses’ accomplishments during the Maghey Sankranti Mela on January 14, 2025, at Jorethang, applauding their hard work and determination. The remaining nurses are set to join their colleagues in Germany by March 2025.

This initiative is a collaborative effort of the Skill Development Department, Commerce & Industries Department, and Planning & Development Department.
