Sikkim: National workshop on Research Methodology and Scientific Writing begins in Gangtok

A two-day National Workshop on Research Methodology and Scientific Writing commenced today at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Gangtok. Organized by the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Tadong, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, the workshop aims to equip researchers, academicians, and students with essential skills in scientific writing, research methodologies, and documentation.

The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Muralidhar V Pai, Dean, SMIMS Gangtok; Dr. Jhon Jo Varghese, Scientist-C, Spices Board, Ministry of Commerce & Industry; Professor (Dr) Sanjiba Dutta, Head of Psychiatry, SMIMS; Dr. Saurabh Saha, Senior Scientist, ICAR Tadong; and Dr. Achintya Mitra, Assistant Director Incharge, RARI Gangtok.

Professor (Vd) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, joined the event virtually, emphasizing the importance of scientific research in Ayurveda. He reiterated the Government of India’s support for research initiatives in the Northeast and highlighted the four pillars of research success—communication, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration.

The technical session featured expert resource persons, including Dr. Ch Brajakishor Singh (BRIC-IBSD), Dr. Monalisa Dey (BSI, Sikkim Himalaya Regional Centre), Dr. Santanu K Tripathi (Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences, Kolkata), and Dr. Sreelakshmi RS (RARI, Gangtok). Discussions covered research methodology, clinical research design, scientific paper writing, and ethical considerations in biomedical research.

A hands-on session on developing research proposals was also conducted to enhance participants’ practical research skills.
