Nathu La, the popular border pass between India and China, will remain closed to tourists and civilians on January 1, 2025, due to a scheduled Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) on the Indian side.
In a communication sent to the Secretary of the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, the Army has requested that no tourist or civilian movement be allowed in the area on the specified date. This restriction is in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the BPM, a routine meeting between the border security forces of India and China to discuss border management and ensure peace along the border.
Tourists and local residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid the area on January 1. Authorities have assured that the restriction is temporary and that Nathu La will resume normal operations for visitors following the meeting.
