Khedum village in the beautiful hills of North Sikkim is drawing attention after a strange and mysterious sound was discovered coming from some rocks. The village lies in the Lachung region and visitors are amazed by the unique metallic sounds that come from certain stones found there.
The rocks in Khedum are not ordinary. When tapped or gently struck, one of the rocks makes a sound that is very metallic, almost like hitting a piece of metal. Interestingly, another nearby rock produces a completely different sound. The difference between the two is very clear and surprising. The people visiting the place believe that this sound is something very rare and unusual.
Tourists visiting the village shared their experience in a Facebook video posted on North Sikkim Today. In the video, one of the visitors can be heard saying, "Like this. Can you feel the difference? The sound of these two stones is different. This is our village, Khedum. The sound of these stones is different." Another person adds, "It’s like the fingers of a hand. It’s like holding a finger. You can hear the sound. It’s a very different sound."
The video shows how the visitors experimented with the stones and were surprised by the strange noise. One person said, "This one sounds normal, but when we tap this other one, it’s like something is inside. Can anyone explain what it is?" They also pointed to a small stream of pure water flowing in the rock which is always present. The villagers believe this water is holy, and many consider it special.
In the same video, a man named Pema can be seen demonstrating the sound of the stone. Another person named Tashi is also present. They said they came to the village for worship, but were surprised when they heard the strange sound coming from the rocks. They said the place looks exactly the same as it did many years ago.
One of them said, "This place is the same as it was when I was a kid. It hasn’t changed. The houses, the views, the people; everything is still the same." The camera also shows a beautiful old house built by their ancestors.
