Sikkim’s Member of Parliament, Dorjee Tshering Lepcha has expressed gratitude to the Government of India for the historic decision to revive the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025. The revered pilgrimage, which holds profound spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and followers of Bon, is set to once again attract thousands of devotees from around the world. Lepcha praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this momentous development possible, highlighting the immense impact it will have on both the cultural and economic landscape of Sikkim.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, an age-old pilgrimage, provides a transformative spiritual experience, offering pilgrims a path to enlightenment and inner purification. The revival of this sacred journey reflects India’s deep commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while fostering spiritual connectivity among its citizens and the global community.

In his statement, Lepcha extended his sincere appreciation to Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, for his critical support in making the revival of the Yatra a reality. The reopening of this pilgrimage route is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the state, particularly through the Nathu La Pass, which serves as the primary access route for pilgrims. This influx of devotees is expected to stimulate sectors such as tourism, hospitality, transportation, local handicrafts, and more, providing new economic opportunities for the people of Sikkim.

Lepcha also highlighted the potential for the simultaneous reopening of the Nathu La trade route, which would further enhance infrastructure and create more avenues for bilateral trade. He emphasized the strategic importance of India and China working together to resume this vital trade route, which could lead to stronger economic cooperation and regional stability.

The revival of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is seen as a key step toward strengthening India-China relations, fostering mutual trust, and addressing shared challenges. Lepcha, a steadfast advocate for the resumption of the Yatra, has actively pursued this cause across various platforms, including raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha on November 28, 2024.

Looking ahead, Lepcha reaffirmed his commitment to supporting future initiatives aimed at enhancing India-China cooperation and ensuring the welfare of Sikkim’s people.
