Sikkim mourns the loss of Dr. B.M. Rai, founder of Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh
Thanks to his advocacy, the Rai language is now an official language, recognized in government education and communication.

The Kirat Rai community in Sikkim is in mourning following the passing of Dr. B.M. Rai, the visionary founder of the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh.
Dr. B.M. Rai was a pivotal figure in the socio-cultural development of the Kirat Rai community. His tireless efforts helped revitalize the Rai (Bawa) language, once on the brink of extinction. Thanks to his advocacy, the Rai language is now an official language, recognized in government education and communication. His dedication has ensured that the language and culture of the community will continue to thrive for generations to come.
The Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh expressed its deepest condolences to Dr. Rai's family, including his relatives Mr. Kumar Rai, Gopal Rajalam, Vijay Kumar Rai, D.K. Rai, Mohan Dungmali, Dr. Bimal Kumar Rai, Ram Bahadur Rai, Mrs. Radhika Rai, and others. Members of the Sangh have also visited his residence to offer their heartfelt sympathy and stand in solidarity with the grieving family.
