Sikkim Minister Sonam Lama meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeks support on key issues

Minister Ven Sonam Lama, who oversees the Ecclesiastical, Public Health Engineering (PHE), and Water Resources Departments in Sikkim, met with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting focused on several important issues concerning the state.
During the discussion, Minister Lama highlighted Sikkim’s long-pending concerns, including the early return of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorji to India. Shri Amit Shah assured Minister Lama that the Government of India would make its best efforts to address the matter, emphasizing the importance of resolving it at the earliest.
The meeting also included talks on development projects under the Vibrant Village Programme, particularly those related to water supply, sewerage systems, and the management of water resources. Minister Lama presented the State Government’s proposals and requested support for their timely implementation.
Amit Shah expressed appreciation for Sikkim’s annual observance of Vijay Diwas at Nathula, which was initiated under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri P.S. Tamang (Golay). He assured full cooperation from the Union Government in addressing the State’s developmental and administrative concerns.
