Milk prices in Sikkim are set to rise from tomorrow, July 1 as the Sikkim Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., also known as the Sikkim Milk Union has announced a revision in the retail prices of its main milk varieties. The decision comes after a gap of two years—the last price hike was made on May 1, 2023.

As per the official circular dated June 29, the new rates will apply to both Gangtok and Jorethang markets.

With the new rates coming into effect:

A 1-litre packet of High Cream Milk will now cost Rs 68, which was earlier Rs 65

A 500 ml packet of High Cream Milk will be sold at Rs 35, up from Rs 33

A 500 ml packet of Toned Milk will now cost Rs 33, up from Rs 31

While the prices have been revised, the commission given to milk selling agents will remain unchanged, according to the Union.

This announcement is particularly significant as July 1 is also being observed as ‘Gwala Diwas’, a day dedicated to milk producers and dairy farmers.
