Sikkim: Man attacks customer and vandalizes shop in Gangtok

Sherpa allegedly attacked Bhanu Chettri, a customer at the shop, although the latter narrowly escaped without injury.

A violent altercation occurred in the Bhusuk area of Naitam in Gangtok on January 8. According to a written FIR filed by Nikesh Chettri, a resident of Bhusuk, the incident took place around 3:30 PM when Dorjee Namgyal Sherpa, a local from the same village, arrived at Chettri’s residence armed with a knife (Khukuri). Sherpa allegedly attacked Bhanu Chettri, a customer at the shop, although the latter narrowly escaped without injury.

However, the attack didn’t end there. The complainant further reported that Sherpa proceeded to damage Chettri’s vehicle, a scooty (registration number SK01PC 6206), during the incident. In a fit of rage, Sherpa then vandalized the shop attached to Chettri's house. Both Chettri and another customer, Ponzal Pradhan, who was present at the time, managed to escape the scene unharmed.

The police have registered the case under sections 329(4), 324(4), and 324(6) of the BNS Act, 2023. Ranipool Police Station has initiated an investigation into the matter, with ASI Nirmal Kumar Gurung assigned to the case. Despite the severity of the attack, no arrests have been made as of yet, and the investigation is ongoing.

Moreover, a report from the police states that one individual was detained under Section 35 of the BNSS Act, 2023, and four vehicles were challaned under the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
