In a major step towards digital governance and tourism sector reform, the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, officially launched an “Online Payment System” for tourism-related establishments on the occasion of the 50th Statehood Day celebrations at Manan Bhawan, Gangtok.

The digital platform was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang. The launch marked a significant milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, ease of doing business, and service delivery in the tourism industry.

Designed to streamline financial transactions for tourism service providers, the new system allows owners and operators of hotels, homestays, travel agencies, tour operators, guides, photographers, restaurants, and other registered tourism assets to pay fees and charges online. These payments include registration, renewal, upgradation, duplicate license issuance, lease or rent of tourism assets, and arrears.

The online payment facility can be accessed via the “Payment” button on the official website of the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation: https://sikkimtourism.gov.in. The portal features a user-friendly interface with detailed guidelines and a clear fee structure to help users navigate the process easily.

The initiative, conceptualized and led by Shri Binod Sharma, Principal Director (Accounts) of the department, is expected to significantly reduce paperwork, speed up approvals, and improve overall efficiency in the sector. Sharma said that the move aims to enhance both accountability and convenience for tourism stakeholders across the state.
