The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is all set to celebrate the 16th edition of Rholu Diwas on December 21, an event that marks the party’s journey from its humble beginnings to becoming a political force in Sikkim. This year’s celebration, which will be graced by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang promises to be a special one as it marks the first event of SKM’s second term in office.
Speaking on the occasion, SKM Party Secretary General Arun Upreti spoke on the importance of Rholu Diwas which has evolved from a religious event to a major political gathering. “This is a momentous occasion for the people of Sikkim, as we prepare to celebrate the 16th Rholu Diwas. The event will be a blend of religious rituals and cultural programs, with CM Prem Singh Tamang attending as the chief guest. People are excited to see what announcements will be made for the betterment of the general public,” Upreti said.
Preparations for the event have been in full swing for over a week with party workers taking on specific responsibilities to ensure its success. Upreti invited the people of Sikkim to attend and make the event a grand success saying, “I urge all citizens to join us and make this celebration memorable.”
The program will kick off at 9 am and in keeping with the religious nature of the event, no non-vegetarian items will be served. The event’s cultural programs along with the religious rituals are expected to attract a large crowd, with a strong turnout anticipated, just like in previous years.
Bikash Basnett, Political Secretary to CM Prem Singh Tamang and SKM spokesperson, spoke on the importance of Rholu Diwas in the party’s journey. “This event is not just a celebration; it symbolizes the vision and revolution that the SKM party represents. It was started by CM Prem Singh Tamang and has since grown into a movement that the people of Sikkim have embraced. Our achievements in sectors like health, education, and development in the last five years are a testament to the progress we’ve made,” Basnett said.
He also spoke about the significance of the event in the context of the SKM party’s growth, with all 32 seats in Sikkim now held by the party. “The success of SKM in such a short period is a remarkable achievement. This event is a symbol of our commitment to the vision of ‘Sunaolo Sikkim, Samriddhi Sikkim,’” Basnett added.
Rholu Diwas is one of the most eagerly awaited events for SKM members, akin to the celebrations of major festivals like Dashain and Tihar. It holds deep religious significance for the party, and despite facing obstacles in the past, the party has continued to celebrate it every year. “When we were in the opposition, we faced many challenges, but we never let that deter us. This event is as important as any religious festival for us,” Basnett said.
