Sikkim joins nationwide mega blood donation drive, aim for Guinness World Record

Sikkim participated in a nationwide Mega Blood Donation Drive organized by the Brahma Kumaris at Thakurbari Mandir, M.G. Marg, Gangtok. The initiative coincided with the 18th Punyatithi of Rajyogini Dadi Prakashmani Ji, observed as World Brotherhood Day, emphasizing compassion, unity, and humanitarian service.

The blood donation campaign, launched nationally by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on August 17, aims to set a Guinness World Record by collecting 1 lakh units of blood through over 1,500 centres across India and Nepal from August 22 to 25. Sikkim’s chapter of the drive saw enthusiastic participation from citizens, local organizations, and volunteers, reinforcing the state’s commitment to social welfare and healthcare support.

The event in Gangtok was organized in collaboration with Alpine Riders’ Crew and several NGOs, ensuring a well-coordinated and safe donation process. Mrs. Krishna Rai, spouse of Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Tamang, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and encouraged residents to come forward and contribute to this noble cause. “Each unit of blood donated can save lives and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood in our society,” she said, urging everyone to participate actively.
