The Government of Sikkim has launched the Sikkim Road Asset Management System (SkRAMS), a digital initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure planning and maintenance. The system was formally introduced at a workshop held at Royal Plaza, Gangtok, attended by Hon’ble Minister of Roads and Bridges, Shri N. B. Dahal, alongside PCE-cum-Secretary of the department, Shri A.B. Subba, and other senior officials.
SkRAMS is designed to streamline road maintenance by utilizing real-time data collection, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, and advanced decision-making tools. This initiative is expected to enhance efficiency in infrastructure management, ensuring better resource allocation and improved road safety across the state. The workshop provided stakeholders with insights into the system’s implementation strategies and long-term benefits.
The consultancy services for the project have been entrusted to M/s LEA Associates South Asia Pvt Ltd, which will be responsible for developing and implementing SkRAMS. Additionally, the firm will conduct training sessions for government engineers and officials to ensure effective use of the system.
The launch of SkRAMS aligns with the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay under the BI-PA-SA (Bijuli, Paani, Sadak) framework, which focuses on enhancing electricity, water supply, and road infrastructure in the state. Officials emphasized that the success of this initiative will depend on consistent data updates, institutional adoption, policy integration, and sustainable funding mechanisms.
