The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government on Sunday turned the spotlight on 210 mothers who have dedicated years of service to the state’s communities, during the inaugural Aama Samman Diwas celebrations at Rangpo Playground.
The event, which coincided with the SKM’s 8th Jan Unmukti Diwas, recognised women from diverse fields who work quietly but tirelessly to keep essential services running across Sikkim.
The honours list included 15 hospital Safai Mitras from STNM and all district hospitals, 30 ASHA workers (five from each district), 30 Anganwadi workers (five from each district), and 30 self-help group (SHG) workers selected by the Office of OSD to the Chief Minister.
Also recognised were 15 Safai Mitras from municipal bodies including GMC, SNP, MNP, NJNP, NMC, and GNP, along with 30 panchayat representatives, both present and former. The government also honoured 30 PWD workers and 30 mid-day meal cooks, each group represented by five women from every district.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang addressing the gathering, said the awards symbolised the state’s deep respect for women whose work often goes unnoticed. “These mothers are the backbone of our communities. From hospitals to schools, from village roads to public offices, they serve with dedication, often without public recognition. Today, Sikkim salutes them,” he said.
