Sikkim heroes honored posthumously in Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards 2024

The President of India has approved the conferment of the prestigious Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards – 2024, recognizing 49 individuals for their exemplary acts of bravery in saving lives. Among the honorees, two heroes from Sikkim, Dawa Tshering Lepcha and Dr. Pema Tenzing Lachungpa have been posthumously awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, the highest honor in the series.
The awards are divided into three categories: Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak. This year, 17 individuals received the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, including six posthumous awards. Sikkim's Dawa Tshering Lepcha and Dr. Pema Tenzing Lachungpa were honored for their extraordinary courage and selflessness in saving lives, reflecting the indomitable spirit of the state.
The Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards recognize individuals from all walks of life who perform heroic acts of human kindness. The awards include a medal, a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister, and a monetary allowance. The respective Union Ministries, organizations, or state governments present these honors to the awardees.
Sikkim's contribution to this year’s awards highlights the bravery and humanity of its citizens. The recognition of these two individuals has brought pride to the state.
Apart from Sikkim, recipients from other states and organizations, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, were also honored.
