Sikkim: Gyalshing celebrates district-level International Women’s Day

The district-level International Women’s Day celebration was held today at the Community Hall in Gyalshing, organized by the Office of ADC (Development), RDD Gyalshing. The event, themed "Re-inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mothers Back to Their Childhood Hobbies and Interests," aimed to encourage women, especially mothers, to rediscover their hidden talents and passions.

The celebration was graced by Gyalshing District Collector Tenzing D. Denzongpa, along with dignitaries including Zilla members, ADC (Dev) Surat Kumar Gurung, JD Education Department Rajesh Thapa, retired Principal Winne Fred Rai, BDOs, Heads of Offices, Panchayats, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and members of the public.

In his keynote address, DC Gyalshing highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the need to honor and respect women in all aspects of life. He encouraged families to support the education of the girl child and reiterated the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment. He also acknowledged the ongoing struggles women face and called for continued efforts to eliminate discrimination.

Delivering an inspiring speech, retired Principal Winne Fred Rai spoke about the importance of women’s empowerment and the role of society in providing platforms for women’s voices to be heard. She emphasized that uplifting women not only strengthens communities but also contributes to the nation’s economic progress. She lauded the efforts of the organizers and participants, urging continued collaboration to promote women’s rights and leadership.
