The Accessible Sanitation Club and Alchem Foundation have been actively working to promote cleanliness in government schools across Sikkim, with a special focus on student education and empowerment. Their initiatives include the construction of changing rooms, access to clean drinking water, and better sanitation facilities, aimed at reducing school dropout rates.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mathur lauded the efforts of the Accessible Sanitation Club and Alchem Foundation for their significant contributions to hygiene awareness among students. He particularly appreciated their initiative of establishing girls’ changing rooms in schools.
The Governor also emphasized the impact of the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, stating that cleanliness has transformed into a mass movement, benefiting society, particularly women. He highlighted Sikkim’s leadership in environmental conservation, praising initiatives like Plastic-Free Sikkim, ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’, and ‘Mero Bot Mero Bot’, which contribute to the national cleanliness mission.
Later in the day, Governor Mathur attended the 8th National Seminar on Yoga and Naturopathy at Rongli, organized by the Holistic and Research Center. Speaking on the occasion, he underlined the importance of yoga and natural medicine, describing yoga as a tool for maintaining physical and mental balance, while naturopathy fosters a deep connection with nature to achieve better health.
He highlighted that India, known for its rich traditions, has gained global recognition for yoga under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “With the tireless efforts of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, yoga has been embraced worldwide. This is a matter of great achievement and pride for our country,” the Governor remarked.
The Governor also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Arun Pradhan, Chief Director of the Holistic and Research Center, for raising awareness about yoga and naturopathy in rural areas. He emphasized that as the world increasingly turns to natural wellness, yoga and holistic medicine must be integrated into daily life to build a cleaner and healthier society.
Furthermore, Governor Mathur described Sikkim as an ideal location for yoga and wellness tourism, owing to its rich biodiversity and abundant medicinal herbs. He stressed the potential for establishing wellness centers in villages, which could contribute to making communities self-sufficient while positioning Sikkim as a leading health tourism destination.
