Sikkim Governor visits Doka-la, highlights regional development and Army's role

Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur began the new year with a visit to Doka-la, a region of strategic importance located at an altitude of 15,000 feet. He was accompanied by Sanjay Sharma, Minister of Forest and Environment, Government of Rajasthan.
The Governor's visit commenced at 8th Mile JN Road, where he received a warm reception from local residents, Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat members of Kyongnosla Gram Panchayat Unit along with officials from the Forest Department and Sikkim Police. As part of an ongoing environmental initiative, Mathur alongside Sharma, planted an oak tree. Addressing the gathering, the Governor spoke about the critical role of tree plantations in combating environmental challenges and fostering sustainable development.
In Doka-la, the Governor was welcomed by Major General M.S. Rathore, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17th Mountain Division and other army officials. Mathur lauded the bravery and dedication of Indian Army personnel, acknowledging their pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. “Your relentless commitment and courage are the bedrock of our nation’s security,” he said.
The Governor also visited Kupup, renowned for hosting the world's highest golf course. During his return journey, Mathur stopped at Dichu Village, where he interacted with local residents. Listening attentively to their concerns, he assured the villagers of necessary support from the Raj Bhavan to address their needs.
