On the occasion of International Olympic Day, Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, extended his warm greetings to the people of the state and spoke about the importance of sports, unity, and physical fitness.
This year, International Olympic Day is being celebrated with the theme “Move, Learn, Discover – Together for a Better World.” The Governor said that this theme reflects the true spirit of sports. It is not only about being physically active but also about learning new things, discovering new talents, and working together for a better and healthier society.
Mathur said that this year’s Olympic Day celebrations are even more special for Sikkim, as the state is proudly celebrating 50 years of its statehood. He called it a journey of “Sunaulo, Samriddha ani Samarth Sikkim” (Golden, Prosperous, and Capable Sikkim). He noted that the interest and enthusiasm for sports among Sikkim’s youth are growing stronger day by day.
The Governor praised the Sikkim Olympic Association for its tireless efforts to mark this occasion. He appreciated the various activities being organized across the state such as quizzes, walkathons, school speeches during morning assemblies, and the HCM One-Mile Run. These events are being held not just for celebration but also to raise awareness about the Olympic values and to encourage people to lead healthy and active lives.
He said that such events help young boys and girls dream bigger and build stronger character. “The Olympic movement gives our youth a platform to grow, to strive for excellence, and to become better human beings,” he said.
The Governor also encouraged everyone in the state especially the youth to keep moving forward with strength, unity, and hope. He said that the Olympic spirit teaches us to stay determined and to support one another. He urged people to help young athletes in their journey so that they can bring pride not only to Sikkim but to the entire nation.
Mathur expressed his hope that Sikkim continues to shine in the field of sports. He said that by following the Olympic values, we can build a stronger and more united society. “Let us cheer for our athletes and inspire every young person to chase their dreams,” he added.
