Sikkim Governor reviews development projects in Pakyong, urges officials to work together for progress

The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, visited Pakyong district on Friday to review ongoing development works and understand the challenges faced by the local administration. The visit was part of his one-day tour of the district.
The Governor was accompanied by Raju Basnett, Minister of Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs. Also present during the visit were District Collector of Pakyong, Rohan Agwane; Superintendent of Police, Pakyong, Dhan Maya Subba; ADC (Headquarter) Shri G.L. Meena; and ADC Pakyong, Sangay Gyatso Bhutia.
While addressing the officials and local representatives, the Governor spoke about the importance of working together to solve the problems of the district. He stressed that development should not just be about meeting targets but ensuring that government schemes reach the people who really need them. He encouraged the officials to take full responsibility for their work and show commitment to bringing change in the region.
The Governor also showed interest in the projects running in the district and gave useful suggestions to make them more effective. He said that the natural beauty of Sikkim is a big strength and that the state has a lot of potential to become one of India’s top tourist destinations. He urged everyone to work with unity to fulfil this vision.
Minister Raju Basnett also addressed the gathering and spoke about the issues being faced by the local people. He said that problems such as school dropouts and drug abuse need urgent attention. He shared that the government is focusing on improving education and using different schemes to solve these issues. He also pointed out the opportunities in agriculture, saying that the sector can become a good source of income for many families if it is properly supported and promoted.
Different departments gave presentations about the work being done in Pakyong. The District Collector, Rohan Agwane, gave a complete report on various initiatives such as the Digital Nomads programme, camps for persons with disabilities (PwDs), and marketing of local agricultural products. He said that these efforts are being made to ensure overall growth of the district.
Thinley Gyamtso Bhutia spoke about the progress made under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which is being implemented by the Power Department. He explained how the scheme is helping improve power supply in the area.
Tshering Chophel Bhutia, Additional Director of the Horticulture and Agriculture Department, shared updates on several central and state government schemes like PMKSY, PM-Kisan, PMFBY, NFSM, ATMA, National Bamboo Mission, MIDH, and RKVY. He gave detailed information on how these schemes are being used in the district and their current progress.
The Chief Education Officer of Pakyong, Narayan Mishra, also gave a short presentation. He talked about schemes such as PM Poshan, NILP, Samagra Shiksha, NIPUN Bharat, and PM SHRI, all of which aim to improve the education sector in the district.
Health-related developments were shared by Chief Medical Officer, Madan Mani Dhakal. He informed the gathering about the different health services available to the public, and ongoing projects to strengthen healthcare in the district.
BDO Pakyong, Sangay Tamang, presented updates on key schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, and MGNREGA. He highlighted how these schemes are supporting rural development and improving living standards in villages.
The programme was also attended by the SDM (H.Q.) and officials from various departments. Their presence added value to the discussions as they shared practical insights on field-level implementation of projects.
