The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, concluded his two-day visit to Gyalshing district, where he explored the region’s cultural heritage, scenic landmarks, and engaged with security forces. His visit emphasized the importance of preserving traditions, promoting sustainable tourism, and recognizing the contributions of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The day began with an official Guard of Honour, setting a dignified tone for his engagements. His first stop was the historic Pemayangtse Monastery, where he was warmly received by monks and members of the Dor-U-Chosum Committee. He offered prayers and participated in sacred rituals, appreciating the monastery’s deep spiritual significance.

Continuing his tour, the Governor visited the Chenrezig Statue and Sky Walk at Sangagchoeling Monastery. Set against the backdrop of Mt. Khangchendzonga, the towering statue symbolizes compassion and enlightenment. He offered prayers and reflected on the spiritual essence of the site.

At Khecheopalri Lake, a revered wish-fulfilling lake, he was welcomed by forest officials and local residents. He honored the lake’s sacred importance and received handcrafted bamboo gifts from District Collector Tenzing D Denzongpa, highlighting the district’s artisanal heritage.

The Governor also visited Khangchendzonga Waterfalls, a popular tourist spot, where he stressed the need for sustainable eco-tourism strategies that benefit local communities.

His final stop was the SSB 72 BN Camp in Rimbi, where he met with officers and jawans. Over lunch, he expressed deep appreciation for their service in safeguarding the nation’s borders. The SSB honored him with a token of appreciation.
