Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista honor icons of North Bengal and Sikkim

The 6th Edition of the Icon of North Bengal & Sikkim Awards, organized by Dainik Jagran - Jagran Prakashan Limited, was held today with great enthusiasm. The event recognized individuals and organizations for their remarkable contributions to society.

Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and BJP National Spokesperson, Raju Bista, joined Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur at the ceremony. The event honored 30 distinguished individuals for their work in healthcare, art, social service, trade and industry, sports and startups. Moreover, 10 Community Service Organizations (CSOs) from North Bengal and Sikkim were recognized for their significant role in community development.

Speaking at the event, MP Raju Bista spoke about the importance of service and dedication, stating that such recognitions inspire individuals to continue working for the betterment of society. He said that North Bengal and Sikkim, with their rich cultural and linguistic diversity, have always been a hub of traditions and heritage. With over 107 recorded languages and festivals like Durga Puja, Dasain, Tihar, Hudum Puja, Bihu, Karam Puja and Losar, the region stands as a symbol of unity in diversity.

Strategically located at the foothills of the Himalayas, the region serves as a gateway to Northeast India, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh, making it a vital center for trade and cultural exchange. The contributions of the awardees further strengthen the bonds among communities, fostering social and economic growth.

Congratulating all the achievers, Raju Bista expressed his gratitude to Jagran Prakashan for organizing the event and recognizing individuals who are making a difference. He hoped that such initiatives would continue to encourage people to contribute positively to society.
