The Government of Sikkim has issued an important notification asking all vehicle owners to voluntarily display their mobile numbers, or that of their drivers, on their vehicles. The notification was released by the Transport Department, Motor Vehicles Division, from Yatayat Bhawan, Gangtok.
The Transport Department explained that displaying mobile numbers on vehicles will make it easier to contact the owner or driver quickly during emergencies, traffic enforcement, or any unexpected situation on the road. Officials believe that this simple step can save valuable time and prevent delays when urgent communication is needed.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Transport Department, in the notification, mentioned that the move is not mandatory at this stage but is strongly encouraged as a matter of civic duty. “This practice will help the public as well as the authorities in addressing problems such as accidents, traffic congestion, vehicle breakdowns, and parking issues,” the notification stated.
The government has stressed that cooperation from vehicle owners is very important in keeping roads safe and ensuring that traffic is managed efficiently. By writing their mobile number clearly on their vehicle, owners can contribute to quicker problem-solving and better coordination between the public and enforcement officials.
