A significant distribution program for agricultural equipment was held by the Agriculture and Horticulture Department, Government of Sikkim, under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme. The event, which aimed at modernizing farming practices and boosting agricultural productivity, was graced by Shri Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, Hon'ble Area MLA and Advisor for the Forest Department, as the Chief Guest.
During the ceremony, 23 progressive farmers from the region were presented with essential agricultural tools, including power weeders, power tillers, and chaff cutters. These advanced pieces of machinery are expected to significantly enhance farming efficiency, reduce labor, and improve overall agricultural output.
In his address, Shri Lamtha commended the government's continuous efforts to support farmers and improve their livelihoods. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the equipment provided, emphasizing the importance of adopting modern techniques in agriculture. "The vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' aligns perfectly with the aim of these schemes," said Shri Lamtha. He also called for greater collaboration between farmers and government departments to ensure the successful implementation of such initiatives.
The program was attended by several key officials, including the District Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Technical Staff, and the Additional Director of Horticulture, among others. Their participation underscored the collective commitment of the government to the development of agriculture in the state.
