The Government of Sikkim has officially declared August 10 of every year as "Aama Samman Diwas" to honour and celebrate the love, sacrifices and contributions of mothers.
This decision was announced through a notification issued by the Home Department of the Government of Sikkim on July 30, 2025. The announcement recognizes the important and irreplaceable role mothers play in shaping the lives of children and by extension, the entire society.
According to the official notification, mothers are not just caregivers but also educators, guides, and mentors to the younger generation. They help instill compassion, empathy, values, and discipline in children from an early age. The government acknowledged that this emotional, moral and cultural foundation laid by mothers goes a long way in creating responsible and caring citizens.
The notification reads, “Mothers play a pivotal role in nurturing life as caregivers, educators, and mentors of the new generation.” It further states that the profound influence of a mother, especially through her values and empathy, leaves a lifelong impression on her children.
