Sikkim: Gangtok man arrested for drug possession, investigation underway
A credible tip-off led police to Puran Chettri, a 29-year-old resident of Yangang, Development Area, Gangtok who was suspected of carrying illegal substances.

A drug-related arrest was made in Gangtok after a man was caught in possession of a controlled substance. The incident took place around 2:55 PM in the Sichey-Raigaon area.
A credible tip-off led police to Puran Chettri, a 29-year-old resident of Yangang, Development Area, Gangtok who was suspected of carrying illegal substances. Acting on the information, Police Inspector Anil Subba, along with a team of officers, conducted a search of the area, adhering to legal procedures outlined in the NDPS Act and SADA Act.
During the search, 18 small pouches containing a brown powder, suspected to be brown sugar, were found. The total weight of the seized substance was 20.17 grams. Additionally, an Oppo A1 mobile phone was also confiscated from Chettri. The suspect failed to provide any valid documentation or justification for possessing or selling the controlled substance.
The seized items were documented, photographed, and sealed for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Chettri has been charged under Section 21(b), 22, and 27 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
