The 4th Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) North Bengal Convention commenced today in Gangtok, with activities scheduled to continue until January 26. The convention seeks to provide a platform for individuals battling alcohol addiction to find support and guidance on their path to recovery.

Dr. Shyam Gopal Nag, Chairman of A.A. North Bengal, highlighted the organization's mission during a press briefing, stating, “Our sole purpose is to help individuals stop drinking. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.”

Dr. Nag also said that alcoholism is a disease rather than a moral failing. He urged the public to participate in the convention and contribute to reducing the stigma associated with rehabilitation centers.

The event features discussions, workshops, and sharing sessions aimed at fostering a supportive environment for those seeking sobriety. It also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges of addiction and the importance of community-driven solutions.
