Citizen Action Party (CAP) chief Ganesh Rai has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations made by Samson Tamang against him. Addressing the media outside the Sadar Police Station, Rai accused the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) of using Tamang as a tool for political conspiracy and claimed that the police refused to accept his FIR.
Earlier in the day, Samson Tamang alleged that Ganesh Rai had instructed him to make hate remarks against the Khas community. Rai strongly refuted this claim, calling it "baseless and a complete lie." He stated that he only became aware of the allegations through media reports and immediately sought legal action against Tamang. However, he alleged that the police refused to accept his FIR, citing legal constraints.
"We came to Sadar Police Station to file an FIR against Samson Tamang because his allegations against me are completely false and unconstitutional. But surprisingly, the police are refusing to register my complaint. They are saying that there is no law under which they can accept my FIR. This raises serious concerns about the impartiality of the police," Rai told reporters.
Rai further claimed that Samson Tamang was being used by the ruling party to tarnish his image. "It is clear that Samson Tamang has links with the ruling party. We have found evidence that he knows Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and has worked for him. Now, his false allegations prove how the Chief Minister is trying to divide the people of Sikkim for political gains. The entire case seems to be orchestrated," Rai alleged.
The CAP chief also raised questions about how only one media outlet knew about Tamang’s allegations in advance. He pointed out that Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s wife had posted about the issue on social media the previous day but later deleted the post. "Why was the post deleted? This raises further doubts about the intentions behind this political drama," he said.
Ganesh Rai also reminded the ruling party that the Khas community played a crucial role in bringing SKM to power. "The SKM government exists today because of the support from the Khas community. They helped Prem Singh Tamang become the Chief Minister. And now, this government is trying to divide the same community for its own political benefit. This is unacceptable," he asserted.
Expressing his lack of trust in the state police, Rai demanded an independent probe by the CBI. "Sikkim Police functions under the control of the Chief Minister, and I have no trust in their investigation. If I have done anything wrong, I am ready to face any action. I am even prepared to be arrested. But I want the truth to come out. That is why I am demanding a CBI investigation into this matter," he said.
Rai accused the Chief Minister of resorting to "third-grade politics" and attempting to malign his reputation. "This is nothing but a political vendetta. The ruling party is trying to destroy my political career by making false allegations against me. But I will not be silenced. The people of Sikkim deserve to know the truth," he said.
