Sikkim: Fatal truck accident claims life in Tingmoo

A road accident in Tingmoo, Namchi District, has left the community mourning the loss of Gyaltsen Lepcha, 35, who died in a truck crash on April 23, 2025. Ravangla Police Station registered Case No. 03/2025 on April 24, 2025, under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, following the incident.

The accident was reported at 5:47 AM on April 24 via a call-book intimation from Namchi Police Station. A medical officer at District Hospital Namchi informed police that Lepcha, a resident of Lamaten, Tingmoo, was brought dead after a road traffic accident near NHPC Sagbari. Lepcha was driving a truck, registration SK-04D-1417, from Jorethang to Tingmoo when, around 11:30 PM on April 23, the vehicle veered off the road and fell about 100 feet near Power Grid, Tingmoo.

Lepcha, the sole occupant, suffered severe injuries. Local residents rushed him to District Hospital Namchi, but he was declared dead on arrival. The informant, Tulsi Prasad Chettri, 35, from Lingzoo, Namchi, reported the incident. Preliminary inquiries suggest no foul play, but the case remains under investigation.
