Speaking at the 30th Foundation Day celebrations of the Akhil Sikkim Khas Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh at Kyongsa Ground in Gyalshing district, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that Sikkim Krantikari Morcha ( SKM ) government is committed to community welfare, cultural preservation and social unity.

During his speech, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of community festivals and the role of the SKM government in ensuring that every ethnic group in the state has the right to celebrate its traditions freely. He mentioned that July 13 is now recognized as Bhanu Jayanti at the international level, an achievement made possible after the SKM government came to power. Similarly, the Khas community now celebrates its annual festival on February 25, a tradition that was not formally acknowledged under previous governments.

"Earlier, it was impossible for the Khas community to officially celebrate their festival, but now it is a reality. The SKM government believes in inclusivity and respects all communities," said CM Tamang. He criticized opposition leaders for speaking against such cultural celebrations, dismissing their views as baseless and politically motivated. "Some people claim that celebrating community festivals is a waste of resources, but they fail to understand the importance of cultural heritage and unity," he added.

The Chief Minister also addressed concerns regarding law enforcement and governance, stating that the police are actively investigating cases and ensuring justice. "The SKM government does not discriminate based on caste, creed, or religion. We have always promoted harmony and coexistence in Sikkim. Every community has the right to celebrate its traditions without fear or opposition," he said.

CM Tamang further highlighted his government's efforts in promoting the Nepali language and cultural heritage. He mentioned that August 20 is now observed as Bhasa Diwas, recognizing the linguistic identity of the Nepali-speaking population. He also said that the government has introduced the N.B. Bhandari Fellowship Scheme, under which students receive financial assistance for higher education.

A major announcement made during the event was the allocation of Rs. 20 crore for the construction of a Khas Community Bhawan. "For 30 years, the Khas community struggled to get land for their Bhawan. Now, we have not only allocated the land but also sanctioned funds for its construction. This project will serve as a space for community events, marriages, and social gatherings," said CM Tamang.

He called upon the Khas community to remain united and assured them of continued government support. "Sikkim is a land of unity and progress. Our goal is to create a prosperous Sikkim where every community coexists peacefully and thrives. The SKM government has always stood by the people and will continue to do so," he said.
