Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in Sikkim, the Education Department has issued fresh directives to all Government and Private schools across the state to step up health surveillance and safety measures.
In an official circular (Ref. No. GOS/EDN/DIR/SE/2025/188) dated June 12, the department instructed Chief Education Officers of all districts, including Gangtok, Pakyong, Namchi, Mangan, Soreng, and Gyalshing, to inform Heads of Institutions (HOIs) to closely monitor the health of students, teachers, and staff.
The circular directs that individuals showing symptoms like cough, cold, or fever for more than two days should be advised to consult a doctor. In case of a sudden surge in cases in any particular school, affected classes may be suspended for up to two days for sanitization, in coordination with the Head Office.
With the First Term (Half-Yearly) Examinations beginning from June 12, schools have been advised to isolate symptomatic students in separate exam rooms to prevent further spread.
