Sikkim: District-level pre-International Women’s Day celebration held in Pakyong

The Pakyong district-level Pre-International Women’s Day celebration was observed today at the Multipurpose Hall, ADC Pakyong, under the theme "Re-Inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mothers Back to Their Childhood Hobbies & Interests." The event was organized by the ADC (Dev) RDD Pakyong to recognize and empower women by encouraging them to reconnect with their childhood passions and creative interests.

The program was graced by Honourable Zilla Adhakshya of Pakyong District, Smt. Laden Lhamu Bhutia, as the Chief Guest, and Honourable Up-Adhakshya, Smt. Prabha Pradhan, as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were Ms. Koshi Kapil, Additional Secretary, RDD cum Nodal Officer, Sikkim Inspires; Smt. Radha Pradhan, CEO, SRLM, RDD; Shri Robin Sewa, ADC (Dev), Pakyong; Shri Sangay Tamang, BDO, Pakyong; and Shri Kewal Sharma, BDO, Parakha. The gathering also included women Zilla Panchayat and Ward Panchayat members, women Heads of Departments, officials, and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The day-long celebration featured an array of activities aimed at showcasing the diverse talents of women in the district. These included cultural performances, singing competitions, art and craft exhibitions, and creative writing contests. An exhibition of local products by Self-Help Groups provided a platform for women entrepreneurs to display handcrafted and homegrown products, promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.

A significant highlight of the event was the felicitation of women Zilla Panchayat and Ward Panchayat members, along with district women officials, in recognition of their dedication and contributions to community development. Their efforts in fostering sustainable growth and empowering women at the grassroots level were acknowledged and appreciated.

The event, held under the Sikkim Inspires initiative, successfully celebrated the essence of womanhood, creativity, and empowerment. By encouraging women to rediscover their passions and talents, the celebration aimed to inspire confidence and self-growth. Winners of the various competitions were awarded certificates and will advance to the State-Level Women’s Day Celebration on March 8 at Saramsa.
