A 76-member delegation from Sikkim, including 51 priests, 10 Bongthings (traditional Lepcha priests), and officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, has arrived in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang is set to take a holy dip in the sacred waters on February 9 as part of the religious observances.
The delegation, which left Sikkim on February 6, was led by spiritual leaders and cultural representatives. The journey was marked by religious hymns and prayers, chanted by pandits on the train, reflecting the state's deep-rooted spiritual traditions.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, is one of the world's largest religious gatherings, attracting millions of devotees from across India and beyond. Sikkim’s participation highlights its cultural and spiritual connection to this grand event.
Sikkim’s participation follows a formal invitation extended to CM Prem Singh Tamang by ministers from Uttar Pradesh. On January 7, JPS Rathore, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Cooperative Department, and Om Prakash Rajbhar, Minister of Panchayati Raj, visited the Chief Minister’s official residence to personally invite him to the event.
