A police team in Jorethang conducted a raid at the residence of Angelina and Prabin Pradhan in Majhigaon leading to the seizure of substantial quantities of controlled substances, including Tramadol capsules and heroin.

The operation was initiated after reliable intelligence indicated that the couple, known for their previous involvement in narcotics-related activities, was storing and selling drugs. Due to the urgency, the search was conducted without a warrant, as any delay could have resulted in the destruction of evidence.

During the search, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered:

1. 65 Tramadol capsules, a controlled substance under the NDPS Act.

2. 11.21 grams of heroin, divided into multiple pouches.

3. Cash amounting to Rs 25,935, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

4. Personal items and smartphones linked to the accused.

The raid revealed that Angelina Pradhan attempted to hide evidence by handing over an Amazon pouch containing heroin and Tramadol capsules to a relative, who concealed it in a baby’s diaper. A meticulous search led to its recovery.

The couple’s alleged involvement in drug peddling has been under surveillance for a long time. This raid marks a significant effort in curbing the drug menace in the Jorethang area. The duo has been charged under multiple sections of the NDPS Act, 1985 and the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act, 2006.
