Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday took part in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with what he described as “great pride and honour,” joining people from across the state to mark the occasion in the presence of Governor Om Prakash Mathur.

The Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme, was celebrated this year alongside Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee. The Chief Minister said the event carried “deep national significance” and reflected a strong sense of unity and patriotism among the people of Sikkim.

The day began with a rally that started from MG Marg and ended at Manan Kendra. The march was filled with energy as cabinet ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, advisors, chairpersons, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, councillors, senior officials, department heads, OSDs, and members of the public walked together carrying the Tricolour.

Speaking on the occasion, Tamang said the Tiranga is “not just a flag” but a powerful reminder of India’s freedom, unity, and pride. He explained that the three colours and the Ashoka Chakra carry values that guide the nation—courage, peace, prosperity, and justice.

The Chief Minister also linked the campaign to several ongoing national programmes such as Swachh Bharat, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India, and Vocal for Local, saying that these initiatives were helping to build a stronger India. He called on people to keep the spirit of patriotism alive not just during such events but in everyday life.

“This campaign reconnects every citizen with the spirit of patriotism,” he said, urging everyone to raise the Tiranga “not only in our homes but also in our hearts.”

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has been organised nationwide ahead of Independence Day to encourage people to hoist the national flag at their homes. In Sikkim, the celebration has taken on an added meaning this year, blending the state’s 50-year milestone with the national movement.
