Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang met Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi on June 18, in a warm and cordial meeting focused on development, regional progress, and commemorating a historic milestone for the state.
Sharing details of the meeting, CM Tamang said, “I had the honour to meet Shri Kiren Rijiju Ji, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India, in New Delhi today. On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I had the privilege of presenting the commemorative coin and stamp released to mark the 50th anniversary of our State’s integration with the Indian Union.”
As part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood, the government has issued a special ₹50 silver coin and a commemorative postage stamp, symbolising Sikkim's 50 years as an integral part of the Indian Union since 1975. These tokens of pride were handed over to Minister Rijiju as a gesture of appreciation and recognition of Sikkim’s journey over the past five decades.
The two leaders also held a detailed discussion on various issues related to Sikkim's development and the progress of the northeastern region. CM Tamang mentioned that the conversation was insightful and focused on how to further strengthen the state’s growth with support from the central government.
“During our meeting, we also engaged in a meaningful exchange of ideas on the development and progress of our region. It is always a pleasure to interact with Shri Rijiju Ji,” Tamang said.
Minister Kiren Rijiju, who hails from the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh, has long been a strong voice for the northeast in national politics. His meeting with the Sikkim Chief Minister is seen as a reaffirmation of the Centre's continuing interest in the development of the northeastern states.
