Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India, on December 27, 2024. In a heartfelt statement, CM Tamang described Dr. Singh as a visionary leader whose contributions to India's economic reforms and public service were unparalleled.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, former Prime Minister of India and a visionary leader. His contributions to economic reforms and public service remain unparalleled. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” the Chief Minister said in his message.
Meanwhile , the Government of India has declared a seven-day state mourning following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi. The mourning period, effective from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, is a mark of respect for the iconic leader's immense contributions to the nation.
During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country and at Indian missions abroad. Additionally, no official entertainment will be held, reflecting the nation's solemnity in honoring Dr. Singh's memory. The government has also announced that Dr. Singh will receive a state funeral, recognizing his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic reforms and development during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
Dr. Singh, widely regarded as a statesman and an economist, is remembered for his leadership during critical moments in India's history. His tenure is particularly noted for liberalizing the Indian economy, steering the country through financial crises, and strengthening international relations. Leaders across the globe have expressed their condolences, praising his visionary leadership and lasting impact on India's growth.
