Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang mourns the passing of Padmashri Tula Ram Upreti

Sikkim is in mourning following the passing of Padmashri Shri Tula Ram Upreti, who breathed his last at the age of 100 at his residence in Assam Lingzey on Saturday. The Government of Sikkim has announced that his last rites will be conducted with full State honours as a mark of respect.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the revered agriculturalist. In his message, he stated, "I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Padma Shri Tula Ram Upreti Jyu at the remarkable age of 100. A pioneering figure in the field of agriculture and organic farming, he played a pivotal role in shaping Sikkim’s journey towards sustainability and self-reliance. His invaluable contributions have left an indelible mark on our society, inspiring generations to uphold the rich traditions of natural and organic farming."
Remembering Upreti’s legacy, the Chief Minister also highlighted his role as the father of former Minister K.N. Upreti and praised his wisdom and dedication, which earned him national recognition. "His unwavering commitment to traditional farming practices and his passion for sustainable agriculture brought immense pride to our state," he added.
On behalf of the people of Sikkim, Tamang extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace.
Tula Ram Upreti was a pioneering force behind Sikkim’s organic farming movement and played a crucial role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices. His dedication to traditional farming methods greatly contributed to Sikkim’s emergence as the first organic state in India.
