Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang leads coordination for Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela preparations

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on December 13 convened a coordination meeting at the Jorethang Community Hall to discuss preparations for the highly anticipated Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela, a cherished annual event. The meeting focused on ensuring a seamless collaboration among all involved members, officials, and stakeholders to make this year’s celebration a grand success.

During the session, Chief Minister Tamang emphasized the importance of collective efforts to transform the Mela into a vibrant celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Sikkim. “We must work together to make this event a reflection of our state's cultural legacy while creating an atmosphere of unity and pride,” he said.

The 2025 Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela promises to be a spectacular affair, with an array of attractions that will captivate both residents and visitors. Key highlights of the event include the prestigious Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament, live music concerts, and a grand exhibition of local cuisine, celebrating the culinary diversity of the region. The Mela will also serve as a platform for local businesses and artisans to showcase their work, contributing to the economic growth of the area.

Chief Minister Tamang noted that the event’s aim is not only to honor tradition but also to unite the community, fostering a sense of pride and solidarity among residents. “This event will blend modern elements with our traditional values, creating an unforgettable experience for all,” he added.

Before the meeting, the Chief Minister conducted an inspection of the ongoing upgrading work at the Jorethang Ground. He assessed the progress of the infrastructure improvements and ensured that the project is on track to meet the required standards. Tamang also visited the site for the Sandhya Aarti.
