On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang took part in a heartfelt tree plantation drive alongside his beloved mother. The event was held under the inspiring campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name), an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage people to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
CM Tamang, accompanied by the state Governor Om Prakash Mathur, planted a sapling as a symbol of love and respect, while also highlighting the importance of environmental protection. The campaign, which runs until July 15 across Sikkim, aims to engage every citizen in building a greener and healthier environment for the future.
Expressing his gratitude, CM Tamang thanked the Prime Minister for his visionary idea and consistent support that has brought global attention to this effort. “Since our government took charge, Sikkim’s forest cover has grown by 5.19 square kilometers. This shows our commitment to safeguarding nature,” he said.
The Chief Minister also praised the people of Sikkim for their active participation and environmental awareness. He acknowledged the hard work of the Forest and Environment Department, whose dedication has played a key role in the progress made.
