A Shradhanjali Sabha was held in Gangtok today to honor the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 28 innocent lives on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir. The solemn event, organized to pay homage to those who tragically lost their lives, was attended by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Madam Krishna Rai, along with several other dignitaries and members of the public.

The ceremony, which took place at the heart of Gangtok, saw attendees come together in a collective show of grief, solidarity and respect. Participants offered prayers for the departed souls and expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the brutal attack.

In a gesture of further solidarity, a candlelight rally was also held in MG Marg, Gangtok, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. The rally, attended by hundreds of people from all walks of life, symbolized the collective grief of the Sikkimese people and their support for the victims' families. The soft glow of the candles illuminated the streets, with participants holding them high in remembrance of those lost in the tragedy.

Earlier, on April 23, Chief Minister Tamang had shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, expressing his shock and sorrow over the attack. "I am deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed innocent lives and injured many. Such heinous acts must be condemned unequivocally. On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the swift recovery of the injured. We stand in solidarity with them during this tragic time and pray for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace. Let us all come together to uphold peace, unity, and resilience in the face of such unbearable tragedy," wrote the CM.

The Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred in the scenic Baisaran Valley, has shocked the nation. On April 22, five terrorists launched a violent assault on a group of male Hindu tourists, killing 26 and injuring more than 20 others. This has been marked as one of the deadliest terror attacks in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam, had been known for its peaceful environment before the attack.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, initially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, four days later, the group retracted their statement. The attack has further escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to a diplomatic standoff. India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism and retaliated by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani diplomats, and closing the borders. In response, Pakistan denied the accusations and took retaliatory measures, including suspending the Simla Agreement and restricting trade.
